Tomorrow eve is the first of 3 Winter Warmer Thursdays at Squash in the run up to the Solstice & Christmas. Come & enjoy a lovely, cosy time around the fire, very tasty food in the cafe and a chance to support your local community biz by doing a bit of ethical festive shopping! We’ll have Winter Warmer only exclusives like special hot fire cider (non-alcoholic) & fresh mistletoe in the shop!

From 6-8pm come listen to some soothing festive sounds courtesy of DJ Campechano Jones, nibble on festive tasters, tuck into a delicious sprout curry and order your Christmas veg box! Meet our new shopkeeper Jordan who’s excited to tell you all about our winter stock! And it’s World Soil Day – so we’ll be talking compost, dirty carrots and worms!

As we enter into the darkest weeks of the year, we invite you to gather in together around the fire to celebrate Samhain; the end and beginning of the Celtic New Year.

Add the names of lost loved ones to the altar, be they ancestors, family members, friends or those we’ve never met. Taste warming mulled apple & fire cider made at the Equinox. Have a chat through your hopes, worries, griefs & joys.

Bring something to burn.

What a joy to welcome the wonderful Manchán Magan

What a joy to welcome the wonderful Manchán Magan @manchanmagan & Rebecca to Squash today after seeing his Arán & Im (Bread & Butter) performance last night courtesy of @livirishfest

We learnt so much in this celebration of Irish language, land, fairies, ancestors, food and so much more. We churned butter and ate it with Manchán's very good sourdough bread - right up our street.

Brilliant bakers Edi & Julie & social artists Clare & @angelica.vanasse were very inspired... and wonderful to chat ideas today alongside @isaacjonesy_ @mariamiamalone @el.llen & @tabithamoses
Plus marvelous to rekindle connection with the phenomenal @thefumbally in Dublin!

Our annual Harvest Auction fundraiser last month was such a joy! We welcomed our wonderful patron @andioliver who helped us raise a record-breaking £4126.92!!! ...which will be shared between Habibti Liverpool @habibti_liverpool - a group of amazing women in Liverpool who support life-saving services for mums, babies & children at Al-Sabeen Maternal & Paediatric A&E at Al-Thawra hospitals Sana'a, Yemen and Squash’s own Soup-it-Forward- anyone who needs can get a nourishing soup at the Squash cafe.

Thankyou to all who came and bid and laughed and helped make such a great night! Thanks so much to all who donated incredible produce & special treats & culinary experiences!

We make bread. It's unique to Squash and to the bacteria on the hands of bakers Julie & Edi.

There's a fascinating Gastropod podcast from 2017 on this - link in our stories and bio...."when the researchers swabbed the bakers’ clean, washed hands and cultured the resulting microbes, they found that the bakers’ hand microbiomes were a bit different to other people’s. They looked more like the sourdough starters’ microbial makeup, suggesting that perhaps the constant dunking of their hands in acidic bread dough influenced the survival of the fittest on bakers’ hands and produced a different set of tiny inhabitants."
