BELTANE: Spring into summer Weekender

SATURDAY 30th April & SUNDAY 1st May  11-3pm

Spring into summer with a weekend of wellbeing on Windsor Street. Join in at the Squash building and the Grapes Community Food Garden. Cafe open for fresh seasonal dishes, both days.

SATURDAY marks our first Squash celebration day. Come and;

Plant Squash seeds to begin their growing journey from spring growth to autumn harvest.

Make a headdress in time for May day, or bring along a t-shirt or jacket to embellish, with fashion designer Jennifer Reid of Mavazi. Front Room of the Squash building 11-2pm

Help draw a communal mandala of Squash seeds in the dome with artist Tabitha Moses Garden 11-1pm. Also join Tabitha for an artists talk about the current Four Mandala exhibition on the Squash building – meet outside Squash at 2pm.

Come and talk to co-director Becky Vipond about Squash and the 100 Year Street – have your say! Outside the garden 11-2pm

If you have any spare seedlings – come and swap them with ones we’re growing! Plus there’ll be a plant sale

SUNDAY is May Day & Beltane – the Celtic pagan festival which sits half-way between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, marking the beginning of summer! Come by and;

As it’s May Day – we’re going to have a go at Maypole dancing in the garden – the traditional fertility dance of early summer. Join dancer Maxine Brown, horticulturist Jackie Swanson and musician Amanda Quigley for folk dancing, Squash style! No experience necessary, enthusiasm only!  Join in from 12.30 up until 2.30pm.

‘I Am – ANITA’ is a solo affirmation performance piece created by writer Anita. It is a gift of empowerment and strength. Join Anita to explore and create your own affirmations and enjoy some gentle movement before her performance. From 11-12 noon in the garden and from 12.30-1.30 at the Squash building. Originally commissioned by 20 Stories High theatre company with Go Play Studios .
